The images show Leiyla as an artist is not afraid to take risks or to address criticism from other people. Perhaps the reason that Leiyla can be seen as 'so overlooked' is the fact that she does keep it real.
Jhene describes her experiences in love,betrayal, happiness or sadness. This image of a girl crying in the backgruong in graffiti shows her downfull of love and an urban 'hip hop' vibe.
RiRi will always have a more successful career because her sound, her lyrics, and her image is more commercial, and even conformist. Which highly important because Rihanna and Jhene both have simliar traits which we represeent through Leiyla.
FOLLOW UP IDEAS: MISE EN SCENE
Costume:
Black and white top - the reason for this is to transmit an image of comfort to the audience through the digipak and in a way establish a relationship between the artist and audience by being simple and ordinary, something relateable to everyday life. Also the top has two slits that appear as provactive but also alerts the audience about the feminine feel of the album and adds to that idea of endless and effortless but still beautiful.
Setting:
We orginially wanted the background to be simple a plain wall, that allows the artist to bring entity to the setting and gives her the oppurtunity to do whatever she wants. However we saw a wall with graffi and it stood out to us and we though we could be daring and inldue this in our didgipak, because it gives off an urban vibe. This allows the artist to be herself and transmits that image of comfort and freedom to the audience.
Frontality:
It is important to have different shots however the artist as to in some moments have direct contact with the lens and in doing so, a contact is established with the audience.
The audience are more able to feel a companionship and relationship with artist if direct contact is established: This could be done through the use of close-up and midshots of the artist.
