Audience Feedback
Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
We created a questionnarie involving qualitative and quantitative, as it was vital to find out our target audience thoughts on the music video because essientially they are the ones who will be watching our music video. We handed out our questionnare to students who were readily avaliable in the study room so we could show them our music video before they completed the questionnarie. Also we chose to do a hand written questionnaire instead of creating an online survey so we could also film some of the responses.
The questions we chose are purposefully short and simple as we felt this way the best and easiest way to find out how effective our video was and also that people are more likely to fill it out if its short questionnaire compared to something that may be long and put them off.
For the quantitative questions we were able to collate the data and represent it visually on a graph. From this we learned that our music video was popular amongst as the results showed that 95% of the liked my music video and only 5% didnt. Similarily 95% would recommend to a friend and 5% said they wouldnt. This implied that our music video was ticking all the right boxes for our target audience
Do you like our music video?
Would you recommend the music video to a friend?
However we also wanted to gather some qualititative data to find out in more detail what are target audience didnt or did like about our music video.
Question 1 asked 'do you like our music video' some of the response we had were : 'Yes because it was a good representation of a RnB music video' and 'I like the story it told' from this we can infer that we have succesfully followed of the conventions of RnB music video as the target audience clearly recognised the genre and also that the audience could recognise a narrative from the music video
For question 2 'Would you recommend the music video to a friends' one participant said 'Yes because the filming was great' and another one said ' yes because it was entertaining. From this feeback we learned that our target audience thinks our music video resembles something professional and we made it something thet would sit down and enjoy and discuss with thier friends.
Question 3 ' what would you change about the video' helped us to understand that are target audience felt that ' the party scene should be a bit clearer' and that we should include 'speech,a conversation between the two people' this higlights that although our target audience recognised there was a story line at some points it was unclear and confusing as to what exactly was going on. Therefore by adding a break in the song and having a scene like in Justin Biebers's confident, where we can hear the male and female conversing it may give the target audience a deeper insight into the story, keeping them intrigued and watching til the end of the video.
The final question 'how does the song relate to the music video' showed us that the targer audience as a whole recognised a link between the song lyrics and music video, one particpant said ' when you listen to the song the lyrics the video acts it out' this implies that through our artist body language and facial expressions along with the story line we succesfully conveyed the message and tone of the song on screen. However none of our target audience picked up on all the small parts that make up the mise-en-scene such as the lighting and costume so this suggest to us these werent that effective. Instead our target audience just looked at the big picture to understand the message of the song.
We wanted to get more information so we made another questionnaire. The main objectives for taking an audience feedback were to assess how effective my music video for ‘Stranger’ and the ancillary texts were. I decided to create my two surveys on the online platform, Survey Monkey. I received 39 to the first survey about the music video and an additional 16 responses to my survey about the ancillary texts.
The results of the survey showed that 94% liked the music video overall, where a 6% did not. Other questions included such as their favourite aspects of the music video, whereby mise-en-scene came first at 67%, followed by editing with 64% and camerawork with 59%. Regarding the narrative, an overwhelming percentage understood the narrative although a few respondents were unclear at to whether the love interest was still alive or not. Given my narrative objective of being slightly ambiguous I was happy with this customer feedback.
