MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION JOURNEY

Rough Cut One

I purposely  chose to have an ambiguious storyline because, as I wanted to have an unstructured editing process. However, due to the large amount of film material, my first exercise was to organise all the footage into secions. I used the editing software iMovie as I wanted to create a sense of constant movement and fluidity. I believe this was largely achieved in the editing stages, as I was able to speed up and slow down shots accordingly, such as the dancing in the chorus and short snippetts of the party where sped up and slowed down, which allowed me to create a time-lapse effect. In addition to this, I also created an Edit sheet which was extremely useful in particular for my first couple of rough cuts as it would allow me to look back on any changes made to the footage and its order.

Rough CutTwo

Although there are very slight differences between rough cut one and two, this is because any changes made were predominantly lip synch related. I added more lip synch in the begining of the video. This helped to make the storyline more clear and seem as though the aritist is telling the audience a story, because in rough cut one the storyline is unclear. Also becuase I was still relatively new with this type of editing fixing any lip synch problems that simply occurred as a consequence of the artist either not saying the word, or not keeping the note for the correct amount of time, was challenging and I had to make very specific changes so the rest of the footage wouldn't be off beeat.

Rough Cut three

Our second version of 'stranger' was very problematic because Daisy and I were trying immensely to improve our video. Daisy decided to have a long introduction of the party scene, which I personally disagreed with, but I went along with her idea to be a good team mate. The result of this was not what we expected it made the video seem rather uninteresting and no rappor was built with the audience. However Daisy also suggested that we speeed it up and this correlated with beat of the song. Also we tried to incoporate juxaposition but this made our storyline very unclear because when we asked people about the narrative story they simple just didn't get it. Also we accidentally cut out a section of the song.
